Custom, Creative, & Cranky
To dispel any romantic images, we are not standing there pumping your printing by foot. And though we have some early hand-fed models around the joint, our main production letterpresses are fine pieces of post-industrial revolution apparatus.
However, your printing is still carefully crafted and requires the pressman’s constant attention and adjustments throughout the run. Subtle variations from piece to piece are inevitable and indeed part of the visual appeal of letterpress.
Actually the hardest work is done by the designer. Developing outstanding concepts, graphics, illustrations, typography and artwork for letterpress production is a job in itself. See tips on designing for letterpress here.
The customer and printer closely working together ultimately produces the best results.
Letterpress Printing Specialists
Most of the work we do is custom letterpress printing. Many letterpress productions tend to be smaller sized pieces with a limited number of ink colors. Letterpress is not a full-color process. But what it lacks in the tutti-frutti spectrum it makes up for with tasty tactile paper goodness that stands out and folks love.
Items that are ideal for letterpress:
- Business Cards
- Flat & Folded Cards
- Invitation Sets
- Greeting Cards
- Coasters
- Promotional Materials
- Stationery and ID Pieces
- Small Packaging
- Labels
- Hang Tags
Letterpress is much more than letters pressed in paper.
The noisy old machines can do a lot more than just letterpress printing. The following snazzy techniques are also offered.
Kin folk to letterpress:
- Foil Stamping
- Die-Cutting
- Embossing and Debossing
- Numbering
Great finished projects begin and finish with smart paper selection.
Got something in mind? Call or e-mail what you are looking for and the cantankerous fellow will send you some paper samples to hold, flick, fold and chew on before the job goes to press.
Just let the old man babble on.
Yes, maybe we’ve built a reputation for being a bit surly. But we act this way mainly to get attention (or occasionally to get the damn kids off our lawn)!
Rest assured, we keep the crankiness in check with our paying customers and are generally happy to help.
Not everything that an excitable creative mind can conjure up can be reproduced with letterpress. All wild ideas must be suitable for the medium.
Don’t worry though, grumpy grandpa here can help you determine if your concept is appropriate for letterpress and if so how to make it turn out its very best.
